Their X-ray Diffraction(XRD),Fourier Transition Infrared (FTIR) and transmission electron microscope(TEM) characterizations show that three kinds of montmorillonite(O-MMT2, O-MMT3 and Mg-MMT) can be intercalated by methylmethacrylate, and poly(methylmethacrylate)/montmorillonite nanocomposites were synthesized successfully. And PMMA/O-MMT2, PMMA/O-MMT3 and PMMA /Mg-MMT (MMT/MMA mass ratio< 7 : 93) can be used to prepare exfoliated nanocomposites. The optimized processing conditions are as follows: the reaction temperature-86 ℃; initiator in the reaction system-1.2 g; the reaction time-8 h.The effects of different kind of montmorillionite and nanocrystallization extent on the thermo properties of nanocomposites were studied. The TG and DTG spectrums show that: when the content of O-MMT3 is 5wt%,the thermo propertie is best. The effect of different O-MMT3 content on the absorbing unability of nanocomposites was discussed. The preferable O-MMT3 content for acquiring a better absorbing unability of nanocomposites is: the content of O-MMT3 is 3wt%.The effect of temperature on the kinetics of PMMA/O-MMT3 nanocomposite was investigated. The equation of the polymerization rate of PMMA/O-MMT3 nanocomposite is K=30.59 e-14.55/RT, and the energy of activation is about 14.55 kJmol-1.
