Multimedia environmental model is a kind of mathematical model that can be applied to the study of quantitive transfer and fate of pollutants in the environment. It plays an important role in the study of the multimedia environmental behavior of pollutants. The dissertation studied the multimedia environmental behavior of three typical kinds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), namely, anthracene (AN), benzo(a)anthracene (B(a)A) and benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P), in Northeastern China (Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province and Liaoning Provence). And a Level III multimedia environmental model was applied. The environmental influence of environmental accidents by burst pollution was predicted based on Level IV multimedia environmental model. The annual emission of the three kinds of PAHs in Northeastern China was estimated. Source-specific consumption data of industrial coal burning, domestic coal burning, coke production, industrial oil burning, biomass (straw and firewood) burning and run-distance of motor vehicles for 2002 in Northeastern China were collected. PAH emission factors of the consumption were also collected. Based on the emission factor method, the annual emission of the three kinds of PAHs was calculated in Northeastern China. The results showed that among various sources, biomass burning, domestic coal burning, and coking production were the main sources of PAHs, which contributed 43.3%, 37.8%, and 19.1% of the total emission, respectively. The concentrations distributing, mass distributing and environmental fate of the three kinds of PAHs in Northeastern China were simulated. A Level III multimedia environmental model for AN, B(a)A, B(a)P in Northeastern China was established, and the estimated PAHs emission was input. In the model, six environmental compartments were included, namely, air, water, soil, sediment, vegetation represented by pine needles, and organic film that coats impervious surfaces. Total concentrations of the three PAHs in these compartments were 1.86×10-11, 8.18×10-7, 4.33×10-3, 3.30×10-3, 1.41×10-5, and 7.86×10-2mol·m-3, respectively. The model validation showed that the difference between predicted and measured concentration in air was 0.1 log-unit and that in soil was 0.5 log-unit, which is in accordance with the model precision. Soil and sediment were the most important sinks, which accumulated 99% of the total PAHs.
