manufacturing technique with computer technique. The flexibility and reconfigurability of MPF make it possible to rapidly reconfigure forming tooling according to the demand of new products. The significant cost of design, manufacture and trial of solid dies for forming autobody panels will be cut down by using MPF technology. Comparing with the conventional die forming method, MPF will save a great deal of time and money. MPF technology is effective effort to improve the autobody manufacturing level and shorten the exploiting cycle of new vehicle style. The MPF process of autobody panels is comparatively complicated as occurring of wrinkling, tearing, dimples and springback defects. The numerical simulation on the affecting factors of MPF process and investigation on the influence of different technical conditions to forming defects and research on the validity and feasibility of MPF technique for forming simplified autobody panels will result in further understanding of MPF principle, predicting potential defects, selecting proper technical parameters to restrain or eliminate forming defects, and consequently improving the quality of the formed parts and efficiency of panel production. The numerical simulation on MPF process of autobody panels is a cross area of research on metal plasticity theory, computational mechanics and computer graphics. It is more difficult as involving the calculation of the nonlinearities of...
