Hot stamping technology, which combines metal thermoplastic forming method with mould quenching principle, can help Ultrahigh-strength steel blank approach good formability while keeping high strength. Because of the differences between hot stamping and traditional cold stamping, the analysis of heat balance and temperature field is in urgency. On base of material's mechanical tests and research of physical experiments for U-shape work piece under hot stamping process, the paper presents several basic rules after analyzing heat transfer characteristic and considering the reality of manufactory. The design rule of cooling system for hot stamping mould is presented and initial structure design is finished according to reality requirement. Several important dimensional factor of the cooling system are presented and their influences on the cooling result of hot stamping mould are concluded. The paper also makes effort to research the influence of cooling water's velocity on cooling effect. Through analysis and numerical simulation method, the mathematical models of sheet are established under three different temperature conditions. The distribution and diversification in metal sheet during the stamping process and presented too. By Physical experiments, the effect of cooling system, the influences of velocity of cooling water and the temperature change way during stamping are conformed. On the basis of research result above, the concept of critical velocity is presented and the different influences of water velocity around the critical point are study to help the future design of hot stamping mould.
