Oil spill model is the core part of the oil spill ermergency response system, which can predict the change of oil composition, property, state and fate of the spilled oil and provide scientific information for decision-making such as choosing the proper cleaning method and evaluating the damage. Many studies have been conducted on the simulation of oil spill behavior and fate. Most of these studies are about marine or estuarine oil spill with few on riverine oil spill, which is not in accordance with the high frequency of river oil spill accidents nowadays. In this study, two dimentional Huangpu River Oil Spill Model (HROM) has been developed applying the MIKE 21 software package developed by DHI Water and Environment, Denmark. Behaviour of spilled oil in tidal rivers was analysed according to indoor experiments, based on which the values of model parameters were determined. Important factors affecting the behaviour of spilled oil in tidal rivers were analysed with sensitivity study, based on which typical oil spill secenarios were simulated for the Huangpu River and a quick query handbook of these scenario results were made in order to match the strict requirement for a timely emergency response.Detailed studies include: 1) Two dimensional hydrodynamic model of the Huangpu River from Mishidu to Wusongkou was built by MIKE 21 HD module with a fine resolusion of 15m X 15m, calibrated with the measurements in 1999 and 2003 and verified with the measurements in 1971, 1984. The HD model has shown a high accuracy and can be used for oil spill model. 2) Two dimensional oil spill model of the Huangpu River was built by MIKE 21 SA module based on the HD model, modeling transport, weathering and heat transfering process of spilled oil. 3) hydrodynamic and oil spill process in tidal rivers were analysed and simulated with the indoor experiments, from which the characteristics of the river oil spill process were drawn and the model parameter values were decided for HROM. Furthermore, the Model was validated by simulating the "8·5" Oil Spill Accident that occurred on August 5, 2003 in the Huangpu River. 4) The impact of wind, current, tide, temperature and spill amount...
