With the development of economy and urbanization, the municipal solid waste (MSW) is increasing yearly in the world. MSW management problem has already become one of serious problems that many cities must solve. When the landfill site is closure, the biodegradable organic matters almost break down and the production of leachate and landfill gas is little. The landfill site is stabilization and the refuse can be called mined refuse. The moisture of the mind refuse is relatively low and the combustible material can be easily separated. And the plastic content in mind MSW is relatively high. Making the combustible material into RDF is a good way to reuse the mined refuse. There are many merits of RDF such as steady combustion, high heat value, easy for conservation and transport. After adding the CaO or other additives to RDF can reduce the concentration of HCl and dioxins during the combustion. The research is based on the analysis of combustible materials separation, physicochemical properties, process of combustion and pyrogenation of components of mind MSW, and mainly study the characteristics and value of raw material that made into RDF.The research is carried out to study the 10, 7, 5, 3 year old of mined MSW from Shanghai Laogang Landfill and about 10 year old of MSW from Sanlin dump as the raw material to make into RDF. By experiments, the main results are as follows:1) The proportion of the plastic in the mined MSW is the mostly higher than 7% (% by weight), and fabric and wood take the second place. The moisture of waste plastic is about 27% and the volatile combustible matter is high, so it could be burned easily. The low heat value of the plastic is about 20000kJ/kg which is suitable for making into RDF. The moisture of MSW from younger landfill chambers is higher and the low heat value is lower.The content of element S and Cl are relatively high in combustible materials of mind MSW, which is about 3.5% and 0.4% respectively. So it is important to study how to reduce the concentration of S and Cl in flue gas during the combustion.
