In modern industry, micro machinery and micro mechanical and electrical system are developing very fast. A lot of micro parts with micro holes and 3D micro components come out. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a non-contact machining technology with little cutting force between workpiece and electrode, which shows great potential in its application on drilling micro holes and making 3D micro components. Sometimes there will be waste of resource by using present large-scale micro EDM devices, and they are also not convenient to move, etc. Therefore, developing small-scale micro EDM device is necessary and important. For the small size and shape of this kind of devices, it is required more advanced design on the spindle mechanism to drive the feeding electrode. So it is core technology to design micro feeding, high precision and fast response spindle mechanism for development of small-scale micro EDM devices which has high applicable value.On the base of a lot of research about the small-scale micro EDM devices at home and abroad, a new type of inchworm spindle mechanism is submitted. The whole controlling system and circuits are developed and the program is coded. A new inchworm type of micro EDM device is built up and used to do some experiments.
