Applied an novel nanoparticle-nano-BaSO4( including three kinds of surface properties, i.e., surface without treatment, surface treated with stearic acid, surface treated with silane coupling agent) as filler, PVC resin, PVC/MBS blend as matrixes, prepared nano-BaSO4/polymer composites by melting blend, and investigated the properties and structures of the composites. The results showed that nano-BaSO4 treated by stearic acid could contribute to the uniform dispersion of nano-fillers in the PVC matrix and improved the strength and toughness of the composites greatly, in which the preferred content is 1wt%. The SEM morphology photograph showed that the nano-BaSO4/PVC binary composite occurred ductile crack behavior by adding 1wt% nano-BaSO4 treated with stearic acid. Surface treatment of nano-BaSO4 and contents couldn't decrease the viscosity of PVC. The introduction of elastomer and inorganic nano-particles dramatically improved the impact strength of PVC. The results of TGA illustrated that the addition of nano-BaSO4 was favor to the improvement of the thermal property of PVC as well as PVC/MBS blends.
