Hot dusty gases are often produced in power industry, petroleum industry, chemical industries and so on. Dusty gases need cleaning in order to protect environment and satisfy various requirements. High-temperature gas cleaning is one of the key technologies to such systems. Ceramic Candle filter is the most promising gas-solid separation equipment. It can remove more than 99.9% of the solid dust particles from flue gas. It is expected that the ceramic candle filter has an extensively application.A one-dimensional constant filtration flow model is established. Based on this model, the numerical calculation for the candle filter whose section is cylindrical and conical is carried out. The result shows that the distribution of surface velocity along filter axis has relation with the length of filter passage and filter structure. From dead-end to open-end, surface velocity increases gradually if the filter passage is shorter and surface velocity of both ends is large than that of middle section if the filter passage is longer. Compared with cylindrical filter, the distribution of surface velocity of conical filter is more uniform. Furthermore , the simulation and experiments with a filter 700mm in length have been compared to prove reliability of filtration model.The filtration performance of ceramic candle filter is tested at ambient temperature. The influences of gas entrance position, volumetric flow rate, dust concentration on filtration performance are investigated. It shows that the position of gas entrance plays an important role in filtration performance. With the same input flow rate and dust concentration, penetrability and porous of dust layer forming in filtration of middle gas entrance position is the largest and its distribution along axis is more reasonable.
