In this paper, the air-purge method has been adopted to measure hydrodynamic characteristics (including pulsed amplitude, frequency and the holdup of dispersed phase) of the 100mm-diameter discs and doughnuts pulsed extraction column with the 1mol/L HNO3 solution /30%TRPO-Kerosene and 1mol/L HNO3 solution/30%TBP-Kerosene solution system respectively. The influences of the parameters of plate spacing and pulsed intensity, flow ratio and flow rate on the hydrodynamic characteristics have been investigated. For the on-line determination of the pulsed parameters, pulsed amplitude is determined by the values of measured Sp . The results indicate that the value of Sp is linear with the number of discs and the density of continuous phase, whereas independent of impulse frequency. The experimental results show that within the range in the emulsification region, the flooding flux is independent of the flow ration and plate spacing, but increases with the decreasing of pulsed intensity .however, the flooding holdup is independent of the pulsed intensity, flow ratio and plate spacing. For the hold up of dispersed phase, the influence of pulsed frequency is negligible, but is in proportional to the flow velocity and the flow ratio and exponential to the pulsed intensity.
