In the paper the principle of metal-cutting and Finite Element Analysis are introduced, based on which 3D FEA model of metal-cutting process is built. ANSYS and LS-DYNA are applied to perform the 3D analysis. Through the simulation all three deforming areas in metal-cutting process are studied, the distribution law of the cutter's and work piece's stress in metal-cutting process are analysed, and the dynamic simulation result is showed. Those all accord with the real status of metal-cutting process. So a way to simulate and analyse the large plastic strain in metal-cutting process is discovered. And according to the cutter's failure mechanism, the cutter's failure area is found out. It lays the foundation for the following analysis of thermal-solid coupled-field and coating process.
