Rock-burst is the geological disaster that occurs in large underground engineering. Many scientists have been paying their attention to this problem. With the development of thorough studying this problem, scientists have yielded some results, but up to now there is no unified criteria to understand it. There still exists distance form rock-burst science to engineering application. Engineers have to fall on experiences to defend the disaster of rock-burst. So it is necessary to further discuss the principle and prediction on rock-burst. In the article, the author gives some methods of prediction and defenses, which will greatly enrich the rock-burst practice. After analysis on the status quo of rock-burst study at home and abroad, this problem is settled in three aspects: mechanism and prediction theory, experiments and project practice. These three aspects reciprocally reinforce, and compose a organic system.On the academic research, the mechanism of rock-burst is analyzed in three aspects via breakage characteristic, dynamics characteristic and destroying mechanism, then the produce mechanism of energy source is discussed through the energy view, which progressively enrichs the rock-burst mechanism research. On the basis of project instances, after study on the influencing factors, lithology and stress state in rotundity cavity, the lithology qualification, critical stress and depth have been obtained.As for experiments, after sampling and machining for the samples from the mine, the lab mechanics experiments of the columniform samples are done and the mechanics indexes are obtained. Then the acoustic emission experiments on contraposing laneway simulating samples are conducted, and the damnification of the rocks are obtained.Considering the project practice, first the rock-burst primarily based on geological analyzing is predicted, then the tendency of rock-burst combined with the damage energy index is analyzed; based on systematical rocks mechanics experiments, with the theoretical methodology, some types of rocks which have high possibility and severe intensity was confirmed. At last, according to the results of the experiments and the judging criteria, the orientation of rock-burst of rock-burst are determined and the critical depth is judged by using fuzzy comprehensive analysis on the possibility of rock-burst which can be the basic theory in the mining design and prediction for rock-burst.
