Anaerobic bio-treatment was used in treatment of acid mine drainage with high sulfate concentration in this paper. In the up-flow anaerobic moving bed biofilm reactor with different volume of 7.5L and 26.3L respectively, carbon resource selective experiment was made. According to the parameters, which include the influent pH, the SO42-removal rate, CODCr removal rate and the generated H2S and HS-, and the comprehensive evaluation indexes, which contain the expenses for carbon resources and that for CODCr costs,△CCODcr /CSO42- value, carbon source and so on , it was found that to use glucose as the carbon source and the reactor (AMBBR) with the effective volume of 26.3L were suitable. In the experiment, according to the growth characteristic, adding a growth factor-B was an innovative way. Moreover, the effect of the growth factor-B on pH buffering capacity, SO42-removal rate and the generated H2S and HS- were further comparative studied. The test parameters, the concentration of the added growth factor–B of 0.25mg/L, temperature of (35±1)℃, CODCr/SO42- ration at 2.5 and HRT=12, were determined. Under the above optimized conditions for the continuous operation contrast test and SO42-load experiment, The results showed that the influent pH value could decreased from 6.28 to 3.08, the effluent maintained at 6.78, the△pH value (the maximum value of the pH buffer capacity) increased from 0.2 to 3.66, the concentration of the generated H2S increased from 24.82mg/L to 88.07mg/L, the influent SO42- concentration increased from 500mg/L to 2876mg/L and the effluent was below 238.42 up to the national emission standard (250mg/L). At the same time, SO42- removal rate maintained stability above 90% and the maximum concentration of sulfate wastewater treatment was up to 3580mg/L.
