Single screw compressor is a new production that is developed in 1960s in foreign country, which is considered the third-generation displacement compressor following the piston compressor and twin-screw compressor. Its working process is realized through the accurate meshing motion between rotor screw and gate rotors, and it is widely applied in a few of industries because of the excellent capability of operation. At present, few foreign corporations have monopolized its key technique of manufacturing. The basic study of single screw compressor initiates from 1970s in our country, and in some scopes, single screw compressors have reached the world's advanced level, such as the theoretical study and the design standards. But the further breakthrough can not be achieved in manufacturing technique and machining methods for meshing pairs of rotor screw and gate rotors, which has become the tremendous obstacles that restricts the development of domestic single screw compressors.Aiming at the domestic status, this paper makes further scientific researches on the meshing motion of single screw compressor meshing pairs that composed of rotor screw and gate rotors. Simultaneity the milling principle of spiral groove for rotor screw is studied, and a kind of new technique is put forward, which envelopes milling the spiral groove surface by cylindrical milling cutter on the 5-axis of coordinates numerical control machine tool. A series of researches are accomplished, including the spatial theory of engagement, enveloping milling principle of rotor screw, design and manufacture for special numerical control equipment.Based on mentioned theories, the gear hobbing machine Y3180 was reformed into special numerical -control equipment of rotor helical convolute of single screw compressor. Primal hob component was replaced by mill head which was redesigned; primal swivel table was rebuilt and a new revolving spindle was added which can operate two-axis linkage interpolation with the swivel table; primal parts that can realize translational motion were changed. The complex helical convolute of rotor screw can be manufactured by this equipment.Thus, the manufacturing problem of rotor screw can be solved. This method benefits on batch production.
