The carbon/pottery composite is prepared from wood charcoal, wood powder and clay. The carbon/pottery composite is a new kind of activated carbon, but it is much more cheaper, which can be prepared from the method of physics and chemistry. The characteristic of carbon/pottery composite has also been studied by SEM, FTIR, etc. The result of this research offer theoretical bases for realizing industrial application of the carbon/pottery composite.The carbon/pottery composite can be prepared from the activated sinter of the mingle of wood charcoal, wood power and clay, which is prepared by the extrusion machine. On the process of heating, the lignin material changed into wood charcoal, and the volume took up by the lignin material is shrinkage, and it formed the space (macroporous) between the clay and wood charcoal. At the same time, the lignin material is activated, and became activated carbon. Therefore, on the process, carbon/pottery composite became highly micrporous, mesoporous and macroporous. On the other hand, because of the coating of the clay on the surface of the lignin material, the lignin material is isolated with air, on the heating process, the combustion is limited and reduced, so the yield is high. In addition, the compound of iron contained in the clay, react with the wood charcoal on high temperature by catalytic activation. Then on the process of washing with acid and water, the iron is cleared up, and the space took up by iron is exposure.Analysising the preparing process with physics method and the property of the material of the composite of carbon/pottery, we can conclude that:1. The analysis of TG show that the preparing process of carbon /pottery composite is not a simply reaction of "wood charcoal + clay". On the preparing process, the reaction of wood charcoal and clay is interactive.2. On the preparing process, the activated reaction of wood charcoal in the raw carbon/pottery composite comes from two sides: two-step carbonization process and catalytic activation.3. The adsorption capability of carbon/pottery composite is decided by the function of the property of carbon and the number of carbon per unit.4.The analysis of pore structure show that the pore structure between charcoal and clay is development, this is because wood charcoal is shrinkage on the process of heating. Therefore the adsorption capability of lumpish shape is higher than pulverous shape.5. The obversation of SEM show that the clay dose not block the pore structure of wood charcoal.6. The analysis of FTIR show that the surface function of carbon /pottery composite is comprised by the surface function of clay and charcoal. With the increasing of temperature, the carboxyl is disappeared, and lactone is formed, at the same time, the degree of crystal of the clay is improvement. With the increasing of holding time, the trend of the crystal of the clay is increased, and the ring of aromaticity became large, namely the degree of graphite is enhanced.7. With the comparative of the adsorption capability of equivalent number of carbon and activated wood charcoal, on the preparing process, the activated ingredient in the clay can catalyze the wood charcoal and activated it, the process is benefit to the development of the pore structure.8. The regeneration experiment show that the regeneration capability of carbon /pottery composite is favorable. So the saturation material can be regenerated and reused. And it can reduce the expense.Analysising the preparing process with chemistry method and the property of carbon/pottery composite, we can conclude that:1. On the preparing process by zinc chloride, on main reactive is comprised by the activated reaction of zinc chloride and the iron exchange of zinc iron and iron ion.2. The adsorption capability of carbon /pottery composite is decided by the function of the property of carbon and the number of carbon per unit.3. The analysis of pore structure show that the pore structure between carbon and clay is development, this is because wood charcoal is shrinkage on the process of heating. Therefore the adsorption capability of lumpish shape is higher than pulverous shape.4. The observation of SEM showed that the clay existed plent of porous does not block the pore of wood charcoal on the carbon/pottery composite prepared from the method of zinc chloride, and there is highly pore structure on the place of wood charcoal and clay contected.5. The analysis of FTIR showed that the existence of zinc chloride accelerates the removing of the hydroxy in the clay, furthermore, the activated carbon prepared from the method of zinc chloride contained little carboxyl.6. With the comparative of the adsorption capability of equivalent number of carbon and activated wood charcoal, the yield and the quality of carbon/pottery composite is higher than that of activated carbon that prepared from zinc chloride.7. The regeneration experiment show that the decrease of the adsorption capability and yield of carbon/pottery composite after regeneration is not obviously. But if the regeneration is frequency the intensity of carbon/pottery composite is decrease sharply, so the regeneration times should not be too much.8. The analysis of adsorption capability of carbon/pottery composite prepared from different chemicals show that the effect of chemical is significant. The choice chemical can not react with the clay or effect the function of the catalytic activated reaction. In addition, the choice chemical not only can activate charcoal and wood powder, but also modify the clay, so the adsorption of the activated carbon and clay can be improved at the same time.
