The combination of image processing with the precise measurement generates a new measurement technology—the image measurement technology. The wear measurement based on the image processing is by using the technology to detecting the edge of the object and obtaining its geometric parameters.In the thesis, the automatic measuring and image processing of the wear scar area have been carried out based on MATLAB, and the algorithm speed is improved by using the combination of MATLAB with Visual C++.For improving original image quality, the median filter and histogram method are used as to pre-deal with the image processing before it being segmented. Based on the pre-deal with above, the overlap and maximum dispersion methods are used to segment the image so that the blurred phenomena of the wear scar can be overcame.For improving the measuring precision of the wear scar, canny algorithm is used in the edge detection of the image processing. The algorithm not only can efficiently remove noise in image, but also can keep all information in the image edge.A cubic spline is used to fit wear scar profile curve, and measuring program of the wear scararea is written by means of the MATLAB and VC++ environment.In the thesis, a typical sample is used to check the image processing result of wear scar measurement, and compared the result with measuring one in surface profiler, and an excellent relation between them is presented in the thesis.
