The head of the grinding machine is the key parts of it, its dynamic characteristics have importance influence on the performance of grinding machine. Dynamic analysis and the structural optimization of the key parts of grinding machine are of great importance to improve the machine performance.This paper first analyses and summarizes the standard on designing the head of the grinding machine according to some documentsand discussiong with designers, and establishing the dynamic model of the head, aiming at CNC8312(totally numerical controlled camshaft grinding machine); then makes modal analysis and resonance response analysis on the head with finite element simulation software(ANSYS), which lays the foundation of the structural optimization with the help of the designing standard. The optimization of the head of CNC8312 is proceeded by using ANSYS optimizing module(firstly getting the solution of initial design of the head by the way of Single Run; secondly optimizing the solutions getted just by the way of Sub-Problem to gain the best one; thirdly optimizing the best one ulteriorly by the way of First-Order.On the base of dynamic analysis and optimization on the head of CNC8312, a improved structure of head is put forward and simulated analysis of the new structure is proceeded. From the result, with the same structural dimension, constraint and load condition, the apex center vibration displacement of the improved structure is only 1/4 of the traditional one, the dynamic performence of the strcture is improved greatly.
