Polyaniline is a very important conducting polymer of its electrical and excellent environment stability. Various composites of polyaniline with inorganic nanoparticles have been synthesized in recent years to obtain the materials with synergetic or complementary behavior between polyaniline and inorganic nanoparticles. All of these can be classified into two kinds of preparation: one is that inorganic compounds are blent with polyaniline simply; the other is that inorganic compounds are dispersed by mechanical stirring through situ polymerization. Though they are effective at a certain extent, the mixture and dispersion cann't be very even and might have negative effect on conductivity of polyaniline evenly.In this study, we used graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) prepared from Natural graphite (NG) as expanding agent (EA). Expanding polyaniline was prepared with the method of carbon-based emulsion polymerization. It overcame the disadvantage of traditional method. UV,XRD,SEM and IR revealed that polyaniline enwrapped exfoliated graphite evenly and successfully. Having studied the influence of the expanded volume of EA, the amount of exfoliated graphite (EG), the amount of HCl, reaction temperature, reaction time, the amount of oxidant on the conductivity of the composite, we have found the optimized reaction condition.The mechanism is very different from the traditional method that EG is not dispersed over polyaniline, but polyaniline enwraps EG. This synthesis is easy to operate in industrial field. The composite has the properties of EG and also the properties of polyaniline, so it can be pressured easily and has wide application.The main work of this thesis:1 Using 50 mesh (320um), -100 mesh (160um) flake graphite as raw materials to prepare expanding agent and found the optimized reaction condition.2 The structure of natural graphite, expanding agent, polyaniline/ exfoliated graphite composite had been measured by UV, SEM, IR and XRD.3 Polyaniline/exfoliated composite had been synthesized using graphite intercalation compounds as expanding agent.
