Since 1990s virtual reality technique has been one of the hot spots in IT field. It createsa living virtual environment by using computer and allows the users communicate with itfreely. Now VR is widely used in the military, medicine, education, virtual travel,shopping, interactive entertainment etc.Virtual reality technique as a new training way has been used in the fire fightingfield. It has abroad foreground and very important practical purpose. This paper studies thepetrochemical fire virtual scene and aims at the complex and cosmically scene and uses theMultiGen Creator as the development platform. Also carrying out the establishment of thevirtual fire scene and actual time roaming and the special effect of the smoke and fire. Theresearch work includes several parts as follow:The significance and important of this task is presented by carefully studying the statusof the development and application of VR technology all over the world. The method ofhow to develop the petrochemical fire scene is also in the paper.A software named MultiGen Creator is used to model the scene of the petrochemicalfire. In the process of the modeling, the method is mostly based on virtual realityway. The key technology of the software relating to the characteristic of modeling virtualpetrochemical fire is finely illustrated. After setting up the scene database, the models arewell optimized.Real time roaming is fulfilled by using Vega and LynX which is graphicsinterface. The key technology of collision check-up and interactive control are alsoilluminated in this paper.Finally, this paper forecasts the abroad foreground of the virtual reality technologywhich is used in the fire fighting training.
