The coordination polymers with imidazole and their derivatives is a new and active area of coordination chemistry in new application of materials, molecules recognition and self-assembly because they have particular properties in optical materials, magnetic materials, catalysis and biological activities, and the characteristics of complexes and poly-macromolecules. The design and construction of functional imidazole derivatives and the coordination polymers with multifunction and novel structure via supramolecular self-assembly skillfully is becoming one of the hot topics in the field of the supramolecular coordination polymers. In the thesis, we have selected the imidazole derivatives as the target, synthesized, characterized a series of imidazole derivatives, and optimized the reaction conditions. We also synthesized four new supramolecular coordination polymers with imidazole carboxylic acid ligands which we synthesized. Our work was carried out as followed:In the first chapter, the recent progress of the synthesis, application and coordination polymers of imidazole and their derivatives have been reviewed extensively based on the detailed investigation of related literatures.In the second chapter, a series of imidazole carboxylic acid derivatives were synthesized and the reaction conditions were optimized. The compounds were fully characterized by IR, elemental analysis, EMS, 1HMR spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction etc. The imidazole derivatives, 2, 2'-Bisimidazoles and 1, 8-Bis(benzimidazole-2-yl-)octane were also synthesized and characterized, and the reaction conditions were also optimized. The single crystal of the ligands 1, 8-Bis(benzimidazole-2-yl-)octane were obtained, and the structural characteristics have been described based on the results of single crystal X-ray diffraction determinations.In the third chapter, three new transition metal supramolecular coordination polymers were obtained with the ligand 2-methylimidazole-4, 5-dicarboxylic acid. Complexes(1)and (2) result in 3D architectures via hydrogen-bonding. Complexes (3) is the octahedral transition metal ions Co(â…¡) acting as angular units directly, combine the same linear linker MIDC3- in the same mode into an original cubic Co8 supramolecular coordination polymers. Complexes(4) is a new 3D supramolecular coordination polymers with the ligand benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid.In conclusion, a series of imidazole derivatives and their supramolecular coordination polymers have been synthesized and studied in the thesis.
