Water environmental capacity is an important issue both in theory and practice.There are many uncertainty factors which impact on the water environmental capacityespecially to the tidal reach. The determination of the water environmental capacity intidal river is still a challenge to be overcome.Based on the analysis of uncertainty in the water environment of tidal channel, thepaper proposes a method to calculate the water environmental capacity in tidal riveraccording to a new mathematical branch for uncertainty analysis blind number theorywhich is able to hand with many uncertainty information coexisted in a system. Then it isapplied to calculate the water environmental capacity of the Beigang Minjiang Riverwhich is a tidal channel network, and its risk of the water quality is also applied based onthe BM model with the results of the calculation of the water environmental capacity inthe Beigang channel.Comparing with the traditional algorithms, the results show that the method basedon the blind number theory to calculate the water environmental capacity in tidal rivercan provide more information and avoid some defects. As a new method in the researchof the water environmental capacity in tidal river, the application of blind number theoryis worth to study in a further step.
