Glass fiber cloth supported TiO2 photo-catalyst was successfully prepared by using dipping method and adhesive method. In the process of dipping method, we found that the optimum TiO2 catalyst coating was obtained by dipping six times. And the coating must be calcinated at 500°C for 2 hours in the furnace in order to increase the binding strength. SEM observation showed that continuous coating was formed after dipping six times. And the supported TiO2 had a good photo-catalytic effect in the degradation of methyl orange. After illuminating 150min using an ultraviolet high pressure mercury lamp light source, the degradation rate was 68.2%. Better degradation effect was achieved in acid condition. In the process of adhesive method, binder selection was very important. We'd better use fluorine resin and aluminum phosphate inorganic binder, both of which have good resistance to the light oxidation. SEM analysis showed that the supported TiO2 particles treated by the adhesive method were more naked than that treated by the dipping method. But the degradation of methyl orange of adhesive method was obviously lower than that of the dipping method since the surface area of supported TiO2 treated by the adhesive method decreased. The optimum coating combination" was achieved by using aluminum phosphate. The UV-vis diffuse reflection spectra of the two supported TiO2 were compared. We found that the presence of binder did not cause the spectra infrared shift or ultraviolet shift. Deactivation of the photo-catalyst was found in the process of degradation and its regeneration could be restored by dipping in dilute hydrochloric acid. After repeat using three times, the supported TiO2 using two methods above still had good degradation effect of methyl orange. Besides, the degradation rate with stirring was higher than that without stirring.
