Describing sintering mechanism quantificationally is a point of studying the realm of sintering. The paper analyses fractal characteristic of screening granularity distribution and grain boundary distribution of sinter by using fractal theory on the condition of existing experiment and material. And it deepens the mechanism research of sintering.The paper summaries the research condition of existing experiment and measurement principle of fractal dimension. Two schemes, which study sintering mechanism by using fractal theory, are obtained. One scheme is to analyse the fractal characteristic of granularity distribution or hole distribution through sintering-cup experiment and granularity screening experiment, the other scheme is to analyse distribution condition of grain boundary and study its fractal characteristic through macro sintering experiment and SEM analysis.Fractal characteristic of screening granularity distribution of sinter is discussed by using method of screening granularity on the basis of sintering-cup experiment. Result indicates: Screening granularity distribution of sinter has a good fractal characteristic on the condition of different mixing mineral; Fractal dimension can token the strength and finished product rate quantificationally, and the strength decreases and the finished product rate increase with adding fractal dimension; Perpendicular and burnable speed, low temperature reduction and pulverization and refractoriness under load has a decreasable trend with adding fractal dimension whenα=0.1; Fractal dimension decreases with adding basicity; Fractal dimension increases with adding MgO content and the extent of MgO content can be explained quantificationally, and its value is among 0.328% and 5.530%; Fractal dimension increases with adding Brazil mineral content and the application area of granularity fractal dimension can be estimated quantificationally if only considering changing Brazil mineral content, and its value is among 2.3 and 2.6.Existing fractal software is designed excellently for making fractal dimension value turn accurate. Then the fractal characteristic of grain boundary distribution is discussed through combining macro sintering experiment and SEM analysis. Result enunciations: Grain boundary distribution of sinter has a good fractal characteristic and formation process of sinter can be described quantificationally by using fractal dimension, and its process is not iterative again; Fractal dimension and press strength increase with adding temperature when the temperature of sintering is below 1300℃; Press strength increases with adding fractal dimension in the formation of sinter when the temperature is below or up 1300℃which is max value of fractal dimension and press strength, and fractal dimension valve is 1.59.It is suggested that it is workable to study the sintering process and the own performance of sinter by using fractal theory. And the paper provides new logical basis and research extent for lucubrate of sinter, synchronously it enlarges the research scopes of fractal theory.Figure 80, Table 21, Reference 65...
