Process system energy integration and optimization has been developed and become the main method to decrease the consumption of energy in recent thirty years, aiming at the problems that saving energy, low value in consuming, reclaiming energy and reasonable in the process of using energy.This paper introduces the principle, the decision method and rules which the pinch technology obeyed in the base of the concept and meaning of it .It also includes the applied field, function, effect and development of the pinch technology which provides a new way of energy-saving and equipment cost in the high energy-costing industry. The accurate search of the pinch in the heat exchanger networks can design the optional heat exchanger networks effectively and use energy furthest. As a tool of energy-saving and optimization, the pinch technology has been proved to be a fruitful process energy synthesis method and gives marked economy benefit by applied research over many years. Also make it simple, clear and perspicacious of the energy needed in the process industry, achieving the intention of energy-saving better .In the base of analyzing the pinch technology theory, the localization, the corresponding cause and overcoming method of it are also put forward. Because the heat exchanger networks synthesis is quite complicated in practical manufacture, a lot of factors should be considered. Some factors in heat exchanger networks, such as stream inlet temperature and heat capacity flow rate, are changed in certain range. In order to keep stream outlet temperature to their target temperature, the heat exchanger networks should be flexibility and controlled. This paper puts emphasize on the pinch technology applied in the engineering energy-saving abroad and the application in the synthesis of heat exchanger networks, in the case of the synthesis of heat exchanger networks in the workshop section of crude oil distillation plants. Because the heat exchanger networks are disturbed by some facts such as fouling, the outlet temperature of stream cannot get the target temperature. The flexible heat exchanger networks are synthesized using temperature dynamic response coefficient method. The heat exchanger networks are evaluated synthetically in economy and environment using fuzzy appraisal model and Life cycle technique. Thus have important guidance meaning for practical manufacture.
