Energy is the motive force of development of economics, is the physical foundation of modern civilization. So to use energy reasonably is very important in any field. In some chemical industry enterprises, for the low technology level at the time they were built, the heat exchanger network is poorly designed which leads to the waste of energy. Now as technology is developed, for these enterprises the rebuilt of heat exchanger networks becomes an effective way to reduce cost of production and raise economic benefits.Pinch technology is first put forward by Pro. Linnhoff. It combines the theory of thermodynamics and systematic engineering to know the using and recycling of systematic energy of the process and optimize them. For its effective result while rebuilding heat exchanger networks, Pinch technology is widely used in practice.In the process of optimizing heat exchanger networks, there is a lot of calculation. Now computer technology is developed in high speed. It is practicable to use computer to simplify this process. For that, an optimization system is developed. This system is aimed to optimization of heat exchanger networks of SHANGHAI CHLOR-ALKALI CHEMICAL CO., LTD..Considering the characteristic of Microsoft Visio and the function requirement of this system to be developed, Microsoft Visio was chosen as development platform, and VBA which is in Visio as development language. Development based on Visio could enforce performance of the system. It also can simplify the development process. In this article we discuss the feasibility and advantage of development based on Visio. And we describe design and realization of this system.This system has the function as follows: drawing flow chart, making sketch chart, calculating pinch, making T-H chart, analysis networks. This system has the characteristic of good graphic function, good interactivity and easy operation. Its use in the rebuilt of heat exchanger networks will truly make this process convenient.
