This paper was studied oxidative modification of paraffin wax by air withcatalysts. The effects of various parameters of the oxidation process werereviewed by the method of orthogonal design. The changes of acid value andsaponification value analyzed by range and variance, the optimal operatingcondition was oxidative temperature 150-160℃, oxidization time 6-6.5h, thedosage of air 10.5-11.5dm3.min-1, the amount of catalyzer 0.8%. Under thiscondition, the results of the experiment showed that it was an effective approachto produce high quality oxidized paraffin wax with lighter color, less odor. Atthe same time, the most important element of paraffin wax oxidation wasreaction temperature and the secondy elements of paraffin wax oxidation werereaction time, the amount of air and catalyst. The graft reaction was also studied. The fusion graft experiment which wasoperated by dropping MAH and initiator has confirmed the proper operatingcondition with reaction temperature 150℃, reaction time 7h, MAH 17% andinitiator 1.2% by uniform design. The microemulsion of oxidized paraffin wax was also studied. The oil-in-water microemulsions of the oxidized paraffin wax were made to the useof compound emulsifiers. The compound emulsifiers contain anionic surfactant,non-ionic surfactant and cosurfactant. At the same time, the experiment hascomfirmed the optimal operating conditions were the amount of surfactant 8.5%,the amount of cosurfactant 1.0%-1.5%, the amount of water 72%-75%, reactiontemperature 80-85℃, the value of pH 7-8, stirring rate 200 r·min-1, and reactiontime 20minutes. Under this condition oxidized paraffin wax microemulsion withan average particle diameter of less than 100nm and thermodynamic stabilitywere prepared. It provided feasibility for Industrialization, The phase behaviorsof oxidized paraffin wax microemulsion systems were also examined.
