Linz-Donawitz process has many advantages. Such as simple steelmaking equipment, low investment, high productivity, etc. However, there are also many disadvantages. For example, both in prophase and anaphase of converting, the agitation of molten bath is weak; The furnace temperature gradient and the composition of the liquid steel are heterogeneous; The oxygen lance is sticking and burning. All this disadvantages are closely related to unreasonable oxygen lance structure. Thus, it's very important to reform the oxygen lance of Linz-Donawitz process.There are two main reasons for all this problems. One reason for this is the impact area and kinetic energy between gas-jet and liquid metal are unreasonable. Therefore, It causes the agitation of molten bath weak; the furnace temperature gradient and the composition of the liquid steel are heterogeneous. The other reason is the blown head of oxygen lance is soaked in foam slag when is working. It results in oxygen lance sticking and burning.A great deal of theoretical studies and practical investigation were carried out. A dual blown head oxygen lance with four single convergent-divergent nozzles was designed by us. And it located at the height of 700mm above the original blown head. The dual blown head oxygen lance was used to carry out simulation impact test with cold water and glycerol. The experiment indicates that: (1) Liquid agitation force was composed of two parts. One is the frictional force between gas-jet and liquid. The other is the buoyancy which created by gas rising. (2) The movement of the liquid is circulation. And there are large scales of liquid drop on liquid level. (3) The dual blown head oxygen lance can make the impact area and kinetic energy between gas-jet and liquid metal more reasonable. The original blown head was worked in the protective atmosphere which cause by the dual blow head. Consequently, the sticking and burning phenomenon will be reduced. The innovation point of this paper is the technology innovation of converter oxygen lance. The use of dual blown head oxygen lance can intensify agitation of molten bath, improve the furnace temperature and the composition of liquid steel gradient. The service life of the jet gun will be prolonging.
