The synthesis and kinetics of sodium diacetate are studied in this paper. Sodium diacetateis prepared by making acetic acid and caustic soda as raw materials at the condition ofsolvent-free. Factors that have effects on the product's quality and yield such as materials'ratio, reaction temperature and time are systematically studied. By L16(45) arrangements test,the optimal process conditions obtained are at a n(acetic acid)/n(caustic soda) ratio of 2.2, areaction temperature of 90℃and a reaction time of 120 min. At the most optimal conditions,the product yield is over 92%which can meet U.S. food grade standards.The relationship between sodium diacetate and the reaction time at different materials'ratios are determined, and the initial reaction rate is further confirmed; The sodium diacetate'syield and the content of sodium acetate are determined at the same raw materials' ratio butdifferent reaction temperature conditions so that the kinetics parameters to be determined canbe determined.The reaction series at different reaction temperatures (363 K, 373K, 383K and 393K) are0.9986, 1.01896, 1.08251 and 1.03901, so it can be determined as the first, and the value ofthe activation energy obtained is 10.56 with Arrhenius by 1.077. The value of the activationenergy calculated is smaller which indicates that the reaction is quick and it's consistent withthe reaction's characteristics. It's showed by the experiment's verifying that kinetic equationscan match well with the experimental data and the average relative error of the experimentaland calculated values is about 10%. The optimum temperature and time can be solved by thekinetic equation when a certain ratio of the reaction process need to be identified, while theoptimum conditions of the reaction process can be accurately described by the kineticequation.It's showed by a feasibility study on sodium diacetate's production that this project's grossprofit can be 3.6514 million yuan with an investment payback period of 1.5 years. Since thedomestic production capacity cannot meet the market demand, this project has broadprospects.
