Volatile organic compounds were released in many industry activities, of which the disposal is under increasing attention because of their harm and influence to the human being. This paper has studied the behavior of adsorption of toluene, p-xylene, methylacetate, ethylacetate, ethanol and propylalcohol on kc-4.0 granule activated carbon. A gas chromatographic instrument is used to detect concentration of the components dynamicly in single component adsorption experiments and binary component adsorption experiments. The binary component adsorption values of each component were predicted by E-L model. Conclusions come to that:In the experiments of single component adsorption, adsorption of toluene, p-xylene and ethylacetate on the activated carbon is better than methylacetate, ethanol and propylalcohol. Langmuir equation was applied to fit the adsorption isotherms of six compounds and the results show that adsorption quantity of toluene is the biggest of the others as 312.9mg/g and that of methylacetate is the smallest. In the experiments of binary component adsorption, the results of six combinations indicated that: p-xylene replaced' toluene partly in their combination, toluene replaced ethylacetate partly in thire combination, propylalcohol replaced ethanol partly in their combination, ethylacetate replaced methylacetate partly in their combination, and no significant replacement had been observed in toluene—propylalcohol and ethanol—ethylacetate combinations. The compare between adsorption breakthrough curves of VOCs in single component and that in binary component indicated that: in the condition of same molar fraction, the stronger adsorbate decreased the adsorption quantity of the others. In the binary component adsorption system, the strongest adsorbate is p-xylene, toluene propylalcohol ethylacetate are less strong, ethanol and methylacetate are the weakest adsorbates. The prediction value of relative stronger adsorbate which is calculated by E-L model, is a little smaller than experiment value with good relativity and the results to the relative weaker adsorbate are opposite.
