Epoxy resin is one of the useful polymers. To obtain novel epoxy resin with special function and new structure, ferrocene monocarboxylic acid and 1,1'- ferrocene dicarboxylic acid were used to react with glycidol ether epoxy resin E-51 and TDE-85. From that, the epoxy resins modified by ferrocene carboxylic acid were obtained.Ferrocene monocarboxylic acid and 1,1'-ferrocene dicarboxylic acid were prepared by acetyl ferrocene and l,l'-diacetylferocene respectively , using ferrocene as material. The reaction conditions were investigated and the optimized conditions were obtained. The synthetic epoxy resins modified with ferrocene are FcCA/E-51, FcDCA/E-51, FcCA/TDE-85 and FcDCA/TDE-85. The resins with different epoxy value were obtained by the reaction of ferrocene carboxylic acid and epoxy resin with different ratio. The mechanism and reaction conditions including temperature, solvent and period of esterification were studied. The curing of obtained epoxy resins was carried out using 593 and MeHHPA as the curing agents. The curing conditions were studied. The temperature of glass conversion (Tg) and the thermal stability were analyzed by DSC and TG. The hardness, solvent resistance, water absorption, impact resistance and adhesion of the curing resin were also tested.
