Characterization and properties of bromobutyl rubber are studied. A simple method of epoxidation titration is used to test the unsaturation of the bromobutyl rubber. This method is easy to operate and its result is correct. Bromine content of bromobutyl rubber is determined by ~1H-NMR spectroscopy, wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), chemical titration and oxygen bomb combustion respectively. The methods of ~1H-NMR and XRF are relative simple and their analytic results are correct and relative accurate, and they are able to use for industrial analysis, but the method of chemical titration needs much more time in testing process, and its analytic result is low, and it is not worth for industry. Otherwise the analytic result of oxygen bomb combustion is also correct, and it is easy to operate, and it costs much less than ~1H-NMR and XRF. It does can be used for industrial analysis. Compared with a series of butyl rubbers, Exxon bromobutyl rubbers and bromobutyl samples which are made in our lab, we found that our bromobutyl samples also have the allyl bromine structure observably, but the ratio of primary allyl bromine/secondary allyl bromine is higher than Exxon bromobutyl rubbers, because the degree of rearrangement of our bromobutyl samples is much more than Exxon bromobutyl rubbers. Mooney viscosity, sulfuration, molecular weight and distribution of bromobutyl rubbers are also determined.Sedimentation efficiency of 50wt% yanshan HR-1751 solution (butyl and water) in tank is studied, and water content is less than 0.3wt% in rubber solution after 105min at room temperature(25℃), but after 240min at 40℃.
