Objectives To explore the effects on the residents' health and female reproductive function induced by mercury, lead and cadmium in the environment through epidemiological investigation. Methods The metal concentrations in the air, drinking water, the river and the crops were measured.Meanwhile the indexes of exposure and effect including urine mercury(UHg),urine lead(UPb),urine cadmium(UCd),blood lead(BPb),blood cadmium(BCd),N-acetyl-[beta]-Dglucosaminidase(NAG), [beta]2-microglobulin(β2-MG),microalbumin(mALB)were detected. And the menstrual omen and pregnancy outcomes of the women induced by these metal elements were studied through the questionnaire. Results The air and the crops concentrations of the heavy metal in the polluted area were significantly higher than those in the control area. The mercury and lead concentrations of the river in the polluted area were beyond the standard. The concentrations of UCd,UHg,UPb,UCd andβ2-MG in the polluted area were obviously higher than those in the control area. There was significant correlation between UHg and NAG,β2-MG.in the polluted area. The correlation analysis showed that UPb,UCd and NAG,ALB,β2-MG were positively correlated in the same area. The incidence of menstrual omen and pregnancy outcomes of the women in the polluted area were significantly higher than those in the control. Conclusions The soil, the air and the river in the polluted area had been polluted by mercury. The mercury burden, renal function of residents and female reproductive function had been changed.β2-MG could be thought as the first indicators of renal dysfunction after the exposure to the heavy metal.
