Optically variable pigment has preferable color travel effect and higher chroma, they can be widely used in cosmetics, plastics, oil paint and other decorate product. But as in the early age the produce of this pigment is complicated and the cost was much higher, the pigment was only used in anti-counterfeiting filed. They have limited the widely use of this pigment. Based on the above, the significance of our studies lies in the development of novel families. According to the principle of interference and the theory of film design, we have obtained different color travel effect pigment by changing the thickness and reflection rate of coating.We have used 2152,2252 and 2352 mica nacreous pigment as host material. These materials were prepared by subjecting the host material to an acid extractive followed by an extractive dissolution using an alkali. The phase of the pigment was characterized by XRD, its optically variable effect and reflection rate were investigated by X-Rite MA86Ⅱfive angles spectrophotometer and the surface effect was investigated by TEM. The three symmetrical configurations pigment was prepared by wetting chemical method. Based on the three configurations, we changed the number of coatings to prepare four symmetrical configurations pigment. We have prepared these systems pigments as follows:Fe-Ti system optically variable pigment was prepared by chemical method. We have discussed the phase of the pigment, the impact of different interference color of mica titanium and the different background on improving the color travel effect. The Fe2O3 was un-crystalloid in the pigment, and the host material with different interference will affect the color travel effect. The spectrum analysis result showed that the optically variable effect was changed from yellow to orange using 2352 as host material, the optically variable effect was changed from orange to cyan using 2252 as host material ,the optically variable effect was changed from orange to red using 2152 as host material。They were all show orange which is the color of Fe2O3. On different background, there were different reflection rate and color travel effect. Cr-Ti system optically variable pigment was prepared by chemical method. We have discussed the impact of different interference color of mica titanium and the different background on improving the color travel effect, the surface and hierarchy of the pigment was interviewed by TEM. The spectrum analysis result showed that the optically variable effect was changed from yellow to Kelly using 2352 as host material, the optically variable effect was changed from yellow to cyan and then blue using 2252 as host material ,the optically variable effect was changed from orange to red using 2152 as host material。On different background, there were different reflection rate and color travel effect. On the black background the color travel effect was distinct. The coating of Cr2O3 was well-proportioned on the host material surface.Co-Ti system optically variable pigment was prepared by chemical method. We have discussed the impact of different interference color of mica titanium and the different background on improving the color travel effect, the surface and hierarchy of the pigment was interviewed by TEM. The spectrum analysis result showed that the optically variable effect was changed from yellow to Kelly using 2352 as host material, the optically variable effect was changed from green to cyan and then blue using 2252 as host material ,the optically variable effect was changed from purple to Kelly using 2152 as host material。The surface was compact after coating, so the luster of pigment was higher than host material.Changing the order and number of coatings, we have obtained other system pigment with four symmetrical configurations. We have discussed the reflection rate and color travel effect. The result showed that coating another substance with different color on three symmetrical configurations pigment can change the optically variable effect. The reflection rate of combining was enhancing when coating two substances with different reflection rate, so the reflection rate difference between the surface material and host material was increscent. The color travel effect of this pigment was obviously.The chemical plating Ag system optically variable pigment was prepared by chemical plating method. The spectrum analysis result showed that the optically variable effect was changed from orange to red using 2152 as host material, the optically variable effect was changed from red to blue and then purple using 2252 as host material ,the optically variable effect was changed from yellow to Kelly and then green using 2352 as host material。In total, the color travel effect was inconspicuous using chemical plating; the chroma of the pigment was singleness.Based on a mass of trial and error experiments and the gradually optimized technical conditions, a series of optically variable pigments have been successfully synthesized through the wetting chemical method. These pigments have obviously color travel effect and strong hue; they can be widely used in cosmetic, plastics and other anti-counterfeiting materials. The fundamental data are provided for the development of optically variable pigments. All of this prove that our research work reach the expected aim.
