Precise ball plays an important role in the Precision engineering. Due to the limitation of sphere generation mechanism, low finishing efficiency and high processing cost, the traditional lapping method can hardly meet the requirements of modem scientific development. Therefore, internal scholars presented many kinds of lapping modes, though got some achievement, can hardly used in batch produce for low lapping accuracy and efficiency ,or complexity of the organization, or out of control.A simple sphere-panel lapping method (Planetary precise ball lapping device) is put forward in this paper, which makes it possible to use solid abrasives easily. The analysis of the kinematics and dynamics shows it can get a great variation range of spin angle O, so the lapping trace can uniformly cover all the surface of the ball. And in order to prevent skidding in this mode, the lapping press and coefficient of friction should be limited.This paper establishes a mathematic model of lapping process by disintegrating the process to the Movement of the ball, grind-point selection, press allocation and material remove. Combined with batch uniformity evaluation, the paper also analyses the influence of the structure parameters and optimizes them. It can be concluded that low speed of the jig, medium speed of lapping panel and lapping press are good for getting a better quality by analyzing the process parameters.Under the evaluation parameters of the average material removal rateMRR, average roundness shift△Rnd,batch uniformity shift△σ, the optimum design method of steel ball lapping processing parameters is explored based on the orthogonal experimental design. It is found that the result of the experiment is similar to the simulation, so it can be concluded the model is feasible to the real lapping process. The paper also conclude that the rotation speed of the lapping panel has the most influences on the process quality by analyzing the ratio of each parameters, so in order to acquire a better result, the speed of the lapping panel should be controlled carefully.The paper also tries the first beginning for hard alloy sphere process, discusses some problem occurred during experiments, and shows the reason and the solutions.
