During the process of producing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA),agreat deal of methyl acetate (MeOAC) is produced as a by-product.At the present, the technology used in plants main disadvantage of is low conversion of MeOAC. In this paper the new process of catalytic distillation of methyl acetate thchnology was studied. The main work is as follows:The kinetics of the hydrolysis of methyl acetate was measured in a batch stirred reactor with strong-acid ion exchange resin as catalyst. The influence of the reactive temperature were studied.According to the kinetic data, the mathematic model was obtained by nonlinear regression.Theses provided basic data for the simulation and calculation of the process of catalytic distillation. The non-equilibrium rate model and the reaction kinetics were combined to simulate the process of methyl acetate hydrolysis. The influences of mole ratio of water feed to methyl acetate feed, reflux feed to material feed, different side refluence stage and the side recovery quantity were examined through simulation.Experiment was done used reactive distillation column of 40mm in diameter. The experiment data were in good agreement with the calculated results, proving that the theoretical system of the simulation and the calculation method based on it are reliable. It is good guide to the pilot experiment, and provide the basis for the industrial design.reliable. It is good guide to the pilot experiment, and provide the basis for the industrial design.
