Titanium alloys find more and more applications in many industrial fields because of their high specific strength, good corrosion resistance and high thermal stability. However, titanium alloy is well known as a difficult to machine material, because of its low thermal conductivity, small elastic module, and high chemical activity. Many researchers have put their attentions on the creep speed grinding of titanium alloy. In this paper, some researches were carried out on the fundamental aspects of creep speed grinding of titanium alloys, such as the grinding temperature, wheel wear, surface integrity. In this paper, the joining mechanism of brazing interface between CBN grains and Ag-Cu-Ti filler alloy at elevated temperature under vacuum atmosphere were discussed. Then, New-type monolayer brazed CBN grinding wheels were designed and prepared for creep feed profile grinding of titanium alloy TC4.Experiments for creep feed profile grinding of vertical slots had been carried out using the new-type monolayer brazed CBN grinding wheels, several slots according with the design requirements were successfully produced. The influence of grinding parameters, cooling-down methods on the grinding temperature were studied. Grinding temperature was measured by a quasi-artificial constantan-TC4 thermoelectric couple. The wear characters of brazed CBN wheel during the grinding process were observed. The experimental results indicated the distinguished comprehensive grinding performance of the monolayer brazed CBN wheels. The accuracy of slot dimensions and shape were carefully measured and the results showed that brazed CBN wheels hold their form, producing consistent slots during the grinding process. The surface roughness of workpiece was quite good, and there were no grinding burn took place. The hardness distribution and metallurgical structure of the workpiece surface layer were also discussed.
