Foamed metal or porous materials were developed at the end of the 80's and applied to industry at the beginning of the 90's. They have excellent physical properties, specially damping characteristics, so they are widely used for noise elimination, vibration insulation, lectromagnetic screening and so forth. Jet-electrodeposition is one of high speed electrodeposition processes and can be applied to part electrodeposit because of its good selectivity quality and high velocity of electrodepositing. In this paper, the foamed metal nickel was prepared by jet-electrodeposition on base of analyzing mechanism of dendritic crystal, and some performance analysis with these samples were made. The major conclusions got in this dissertation are presented as follows:(1) Mechanism of dendritic crystal are analyzed with the help of theories of electrodeposition, jet-electrodeposition and fractal. The results show it is possible to prepare foamed metal by jet-electrodeposition.(2) With the theories of flow field and electric field, the flow field inside jet-electrodeposition nozzle and the electric field on negative plate were analyzed by using the software of ANSYS. A set of jet-electrodepositing tester was designed and optimized according to characteristic of foamed metal prepared by jet-electrodeposition.(3) The effects of current density and electrolyte flow velocity on the surface morphology of the nickel are researched systematically. Some jet-electrodepositing experiments are researched by using stainless steel and graphite as cathode. The results show that current density and electrolyte flow velocity have great effects on the surface morphology of the nickel, the results also show that the high current density and active cathode material are two important factors to prepare foamed metal.(4) In this paper, mechanism of fractal and dendritic crystal are also researched. The dendritic crystal of jet-electrodepositing can be seen as a kind of fractal.(5) Analyzed the foamed metal nickel's microstructure with modern analysis methods, And the analysis show that the foamed metal nickel prepared by jet-electrodepositing have small relative density and high porosity.
