The s-triazines are widely used as excellent ultraviolet absorbers in industry for theprotection of commercially important synthetic fibers, plastics and coatings against light. Thenew preparation techniques for ultraviolet absorbers have been paid more and more attention,because the quality requirement on the ultraviolet absorbers has been increasing and thedemand for clean and "green' chemical syntheses has been growing. In this paper, Synthesis of2,4-bis(4-ethylhexyloxy-2-hydroxyphenyl)-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine) (UV-627) asultraviolet absorber from cyanuric chloride, anisole, resorcinol and iso-bromooctane wasinvestigated. Reaction conditions was optimized, identifying the structure of the product.2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4, 6-dichloro-1, 3, 5-triazine was synthesized in the presence ofaluminum chloride as catalyst from anisole and cyanuric chloride in dichloromethane. Underoptimum reactive conditions: n(anisole):n(cyanuric chloride):n(aluminum chloride) 1:1:1.1,w(cocatalyst):w(aluminum chloride) 0.1, reaction temperature 25℃, reaction time 18h, theyield of product can reach above 62.3%.2,4-bis(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine was synthesized in thepresence of aluminum chloride as catalyst from 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4, 6-dichloro-1, 3,5-triazine and resorcinol in chlorobenzene. Under optimum reactive conditions:n(2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4, 6-dichloro-1, 3, 5-triazine):n(resorcinol): :n(aluminum chloride) 1:2.05: 2.35, reaction temperature 45-50℃, reaction time 4h, the yield of product can reachabove 92.5%.From 2,4-bis(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine and iso-bromooctane, triazine UV-627 was investigated. Under optimum reactive conditions:n(2,4-bis(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine):n(iso-bromooctane):n(potassium carbonate) 1:2.5.2.1, reaction temperature 100℃, reaction time 4h, the yield ofproduct can reach above 72.1%.2,4-bis(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine, 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazine and 2,4,6-tri(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine were prepared.Comparing absorbance of them, we found that tiazine UV-627 was the best ultravioletabsorber.
