Drawing dies is one kind of the pressing dies, its design process includes part information input, technology analysis and calculation, dies configuration design and dies blueprint plotting etc. The method for traditional drawing dies design needs to refer the expert experience, professional knowledge and many engineering manuals repeatedly, which wastes much time in design process and couldn't take full advantage of the expert knowledge. CAD technology has been applied extensively in drawing dies design to remarkably improve the efficiency of drawing dies design. But the universal CAD software couldn't meet dies design fully due to lack of the combination of the drawing dies design flow and expert knowledge. So we make the deep study of CAD system of drawing dies design for columnar part based on Inventor to meet the market demand. The main work is as follows:1) Very detailed demand analysis for CAD system of drawing dies design for columnar part is carried out and the developing task and function of Drawing dies CAD system is identified. The system design scheme is optimized. Inventor is taken as development platform, Visual Basic as programming tool and Access as Database management system.2) The detailed design scheme for the drawing dies CAD system structure and each module is worked out. Combining with drawing dies design knowledge, the drawing dies system configuration, design flow and data transferring method is analyzed. A specific design for 4 function modules of drawing dies CAD system is accomplished including information input and processing, technology analysis, dies configuration design and project blueprint achieving.3) On the basis of above detailed plan, the design for drawing dies system is completed successfully. Connection between Inventor and ADD-IN menu pressing dies design is realized seamlessly, by input information manually, the system can analyze, calculate automatically and remind the user what should do next. In this way each module function of the CAD system of drawing dies is accomplished perfectly.4) Apply parametric design plan to build up typical drawing dies pattern database, standard part database, commonly-used part database and knowledge database so as to make drawing dies design and assemble intelligently and effectively. In virtue of this system, we can search, consult, calculate automatically instead of repetitious work As a result, the work efficiency and manufacturing cost is highly improved.
