The development and the use of coal has had the huge economic benefits and the social efficiency, but also has brought about a series of damage at the same time to the ecological environment of mining area. Datong coal field has been development for a long time, so not only cause serious surface subsidence accordly, but also has brought the enormous influence for the mining area sustainable development. In order to keep the economic can development smoothly of mining area, we must have a wholely monitoring to the reason, process, tendency as well as the rules of surface subsidence .As a result the coal area can be received a management to be reasonable. Conventional measuring technique has high precision, but cost high, sampling precision low, and time cycle long, has failed to meet the requirements of today's social development.The InSAR developing since 20th century 60's has become a potential technology on surveying the earth's surface change because of the big area sampling, short surveying time, low cost. This paper in view the history and present situation of Datong mining area mining choses eight scenery basic overlap SAR image data from 1992 to 2003 that completely contained the Datong mining area approximately 10000Km~2. With original material through data interference processing we has withdrawn the Datong mining area surface shape variable field during for ten years the different time compartment. On the analysis of the mining settlement characteristic, we has obtained the conclusion that Datong mining area surface subsidence and the mining settlement rules is consistent.In this paper, the selected data appeares a serious decoherence phenomena in the course of handling, lead to some data almost irrelevant. All these certify the InSAR have a good application prospect. However, there are many problems have not been satisfactorily resolved in processing of the specific application. Its service ability and the practical value are obtaining the confirmation through the experiments, therefore the InSAR technology will be the development direction of future surface subsidence monitoring technology.
