With the development of the dye industry, dye waste water became very important pollutant. Its quantity and kinds are numerous, structures are diversity and difficult to be degraded. Azo dyes took an important part in dye industry, which is the vital pollutant in the dye waste water. This article introduce the methods of treating the dye waste water. With comparison of them, it is concluded that A/O technique is the most effective way, and redox mediator enhanced the biological decolorization of the azo dyes. The purpose of this paper is to find the effective substances which enhanced the biological decolorization of the azo dyes in the dye waste water, use the waste to deal with the waste. It includes the comparision of the quinone in the waste water, choose the most effective one and study the character of the biological process in anaerobic circumstance, and try to find the mechanism of them.In this experiment we chose the products reduced from Acid Red B,Acid Scarlet GR,Acid Scarlet 3R,Acid Orange 7 as the redox mediators, through comparision we find products reduced from Acid Red B is the most effective in the biological decolorization of Reactive Red KE-3B. With 0.2 mol/L products reduced from Acid Red B, the decolorization ratio was 74%, while the sample without it was only5.5%. This substance was able to enhance the biological decolorization rate of many other azo dyes such as Reactive Red K-2G and Reactive Red K-2BP. It had auto catalysis effect in the biological decolorization process of Acid Red B. According to the HPLC-MS results, it is concluded that 2-amino-l-nanphnol-4-sulphate took the effect of redox mediator. The effect of the products reduced from Acid Red 3R was also included.A quinone reducing bacteria QRZ-1 was selected, and the physiological character was investigated, the proper temperature was 40℃, pH was 7~10. The decolorization of Reactive Red KE-3B with strain QRZ-1 was studied, and the 16SrDNA sequence was gained.
