Surface roughness is an important parameter to reflect the micro-geometry , The advance in manufacturing automation has created the need to develop in-process measurement of surface roughness , The traditional stylus method is not suitable for measurements on moving surfaces because of velocity and measuring condition problem.With the development and appliance of the photoelectric technique,laser technique and computer, This article applied the method of the light dispersion given-value based on the light scattering theory to the precision measuring of the surface microcosmic profile of disk, this model expounded the relationship between scatter distribution and roughness parameters qualitatively and quantitatively. According to statistic, the rms of scater distribution is regarded as optical characteristic value(Sn). The relative curve of optical characteristic value (Sn) and roughness parameters can be established .The non-contact measurement of the Ra was realized through the corresponding optical system, fine mechanics system and signal collecting and data processing system that based on this theory. the method has not only the advantages of high-precision, fast measurement speed, but also has a lower requirement for measuring environments. So the method of surface roughness measurement is more appropriate to the on-line measurement in processing.
