The new method to detect mineral oil in water with UV-spectrophotometry is discussed in the paper, the method is base on Lambert-Beer's Law, the possibility of the method is proved by the theory and the experiments. The main elements of mineral oil is hydrocarbon, such as -CH3, -CH2- and so on, the range of UV absorption is at 200-400nm.confect many groups mineral oil solutions with different concentrations, its absorption in ultraviolet is detected, analysis the relations about absorbency, concentration and absorbance spectrum; get an innovation in the paper is that the wave-band with upper absorption coefficient is to detect low concentration solutions, and the wave-band with lower absorption coefficient for the high concentration solutions,it extends the measuring range of Lambert-Beer's Law,and make up the limitations of the Law. At last get a new idea in the design which is to detect the content of mineral oil in water on line...
