The nanometer MCM-41 molecular sieve was prepared by a hydrothermal method using tetraethyl orthosilicate as a silica source and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as a structure-directing agent. The host-guest nanocomposite materials (nanometer MCM-41) -(arsenazo-III) were prepared by liquid grafting method using arsenazo-III and the nano- meter MCM-41 molecular sieve in water medium. By means of chemical analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption technique, solid state diffuse reflectance absorption spectroscopy and luminescence studies, the prepared materials were characterized. The results showed that the guest was successfully encapsulated in the channels of the molecular sieve and the frameworks of the molecular sieve in the prepared composite materials were intact. The prepared host-guest nanocomposite materials have the potentiality as luminescence materials.Alkylation nanometer MCM-41 molecular sieve was prepared by post-synthesis method using trimethylchlorosilane as a coupling agent. The product was characterized by means of element analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption technique, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis technique. The results showed that methyl was successfully grafted to the nanometer MCM-41 molecular sieve. The modified MCM-41 still retained good mesopo- rous channel structure and thermal stability.
