The widespread organic pollutants is one of the most critical environment problems faced by the human being, especially the benzene, toluene and nitrobenzene, which are environmental priority pollutants and could be the carcinogenic substances. Theresting, it is very interesting and significant to investigate the distribution of benzene, toluene and nitrobenzene at the sediment water interface (SWI).Tuojiang River is one of the five largest tributaries of Yangtze, and the aquatic environment has been heavily polluted by a terrible accident of untreated wastewater discharges in 2004. We analyzed benzene, toluene and nitrobenzene in the porewater, overlying water, and sediments collected in Jintang section of Tuojiang River. The vertical distributions were characterized in porewater and sediment. The principal conclusions are shown as below:1. Method detection limit(MDL) of benzene by GC-FID is 0.07 mg/L, relative standard deviation(RSD) is 2.65%, its recovery rate of the standard addition is between 80.00% and 102.50% in water and between 94.50% and 131.75% in sediment;MDL of toluene is 0.03 mg/L, RSD is 4.02%, its recovery rate of the standard addition is between 77.00% and 85.00% in water and 84.12% and 114.84% in sediment;MDL of nitrobenzene by spectrophotometry is 0.001 mg/L, RSD is 12.90%, its recovery rate of the standard addition is between 97.58% and 100.19% in water and 97.06% and 121.60% in sediment. 2. Profiles is shown that the concentrations of benzene are variaed with depths. The content in the porewaters of Jintang Tuojiang River is bigger, and variaed from 0.026 to 0.17mg/L with the average is 0.10mg/L.; toluene content in porewaters is between 0.0035~0.067mg/L and the average is 0.028mg/L.Profiles of benzene content in sediment of Jintang Tuojiang River is smaller with the depth gain, the average is 0.12mg/kg; ProfilesFluctuates of toluene content in sediment is smaller and the average is 0.015mg/kg.3. Nitrobenzene content in the porewaters of Jintang is determined with 11 samples, the average is 0.036mg/L; and the average in sediment is 0.17mg/kg.
