In this study, the effects of sulfate reduction on the performance of the single-phase Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor with sugar solution containing sulfate as influent were investigated and the effect of sulfate removal of the biofilm reactor were also studied. According to the results, conclusions can be made as follows. (1) The sulfate ratio is one of the parameters for controlling anaerobic process to the single-phase Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor, when the influent COD=500 mg/L, the change of has effect on the an removal and sulfate reduction, but it has much more effect on the COD removal than sulfate reduction, it may also effect pH, the outflow sulfide concentration and the amount of the methane. (2) The sulfate reducing bacteria has strong capability of reduction. When the COD concentration being the same, the speed of sulfate reduction increase with the COD/SO42- decreasing. (3) To the single-phase up-flow anaerobic sludge reactor, maintaining pH=0.7 or also, when COD=500 mg/L SO42-=200mg/L and the outflow sulfide concentration reach 280 mg/L, the performance of the reactor will go bad condition. (4) The effluent VFA is one of the parameter for controlling anaerobic process Because the VAF removal can reflect the performance of the anaerobic reactor, directing and the effluents VFA concentration can reflect the tight change of the performance of the anaerobic firstlyThis paper has also highlighted research to UASB water as raw water from the study BUF. Initial discussion of the different hydraulic retention time for the results, and the treatment of sulfide.
