Twin cone rolls axial mill is a new rotary forging and pressing equipment. Framework is the important ingredient of twin cone rolls axial mill. It's not only the base provided for the main components, but also need bear the whole service load of twin cone rolls axial mill. The rational design for framework can make the weight decrease, make the rigidity increase, make the expenditure of time reduce, make the quality improve. There are many defects exist in traditional designing method, such as long periods, structural redundancy, high cost and lack of the validation etc. Along with drastic competition, the corporations need to comprehend the distributing rale of stress and strain of twin cone rolls axial mill in working condition and execute the structure optimization based on the results. Along with the computer technology popularization, the technique of finite element analysis (FEA) got more and more attention paid and applications engineering analysis and design, which has became a valid method in solving complicated engineering problems. It is the core of the process in the modern engineering design. By adopting the finite element theory in numerical value computation and utilizing the function of ANSYS software, this article analyzed the main structure of 4000 KN twin cone rolls axial mill. It can provide reliable data for design and manufacturing.The paper introduced work principle, structure characteristic, design method and application range of twin cone rolls axial mill; introduced the theory and method of structure optimization and FEA; introduced the status of research in twin cone rolls axial mill home and overseas; introduced the status of research and application about the FEA in forging and pressing equipment. The paper put forward the route of static finite element analysis and structure optimization for the components of twin cone rolls axial mill, performed the static finite element analysis of important components including upper beam, lower beam, upright column, stretching bolt, attained the distributing nephogram of stress and strain. The paper executed the structure amelioration based on the results of static finite element analysis and optimized the calculational results of upper beam.The research of theory and method of structure optimization based FEA possess versatility and practical value can be used as a basis for design and production of new types of rotary forging and pressing equipment.
