The metallized complexed azo dyes are regarded as the most important class among metallized complexed dyes, which developed on the basis of the azo dyes. Azo dyes plays an important part in synthetic dyes and shares 60-70 % of all commercial dyes. Bsaed on its chemical structures, azo dyes contains one or more groups of—N=N─with aromatic compounds at two ends of it and mainly used as dyes of azelon (such as wool and silk) and polyamide fibre. Lots of literatures indicates that metal cobalt was fully studied, but few are made for Cu and Zn. the price of which are lower than those of metal cobalt. Recently azo dye is a new class of optical disc medium with high density recording performance for its remarkable optical and thermal properties within short wavelength region. Furthermore, azo dye is a promising candidate for rewritable optical disc medium for its transcis photo-isomerization. So, it is very important to find environmentally friendly iron complex dyes as viable alternatives. In the thesis, Sudan (II) is selected as a mordant dye to react with several metal ions for preparation of metallized complexed azo dyes. Additionally the structures and the character of the metallized mordant dyes are determined by IR, UV and 1H-NMR and various factors that affect the reaction are examined.By visible spectral analysis, the structure of the precursor dyes are determined and the metallized complexed dyes characterized, which shows that the maximum absorption wavelength of metallized complexes is between 220nm—500nm, which shows the color of fresh yellow. In addition, the metallized complexed dyes exhibits bathochromic shift in the position of major absorption band with broadening of the absorption curves, compared with that of the corresponding metal-free parent compounds. Furthermore, due to coordinate the metal ion, some metallized complexed dyes appear shoulder peak.
