Supercritical fluids(SCF)technology was developed rapidly in recent three decades and was applied in various fields because of its environment-benign,energy-saving and cheapness. Its investigation has been expanded from the supercritical fluid extraction in the beginning to supercritical dying,nano-particle making, deposition, reactions and so on.Its use for synthesizing nano-catalysts has many advantages over the traditional methods. To synthesize a nano-catalyst by using supercritical fluid deposition,it is significant to know the solubility of its precursor in supercritical fluids. After a systematic study of solubility measurements of solid substances in supercritical fluids in literature,a new set of apparatus was established. The solubility of ferrocene in supercritical carbon dioxide was studied. The results were correlated by using empirical models proposed by Mendez-Santiago/Teja(MT)and Fei Tan in combination with a cubic equation of state.A modified MT model was proposed in this work to improve the solubility calculation near the critical point. The calculation of the solubility of solid substances in supercritical fluids by using equations of state(EOS)was studied. The Peng/Robinson EOS.with.different.mixing.rules(MR).was.compared.with.the.Soave/Redlic h/Kwong EOS.It was shown that the PR EOS combined with Huron/Vidal-NRTL.mixing.rule.gives.better.results.than.other.combinations.The expended liquid model was studied, too. An improvement was proposed in this.work.in.order.to.give.satisfactory.results.comparable.with.the compressed gas model. The metal organic substance ferrocene was used as a model precursor for.nano-catalyst.systhesizing.Tne supercritical fluid deposition of ferrocene on Al2O3 as support are studied. The results show that particle size and the loading ratio increases with the increasing pressure at a given temperature.
