Disordered concept and inconsistent with evaluation method of the classical error theory make it difficult to compare one measurement result with others and prevent measurement results from being used correctly. Under the promotion of several international organizations,the measurement uncertainty has substituted for error and become an index of evaluating the quality of measurement results. The measurement uncertainty is a parameter associated with the result of a measurement that characterizes the dispersion of the measurand. It means dubitable degree ofcorrectness or veracity of measurement results. It's on the base of error theory, but is greatly differential from error in signification, categories and evaluating methods.In the realm of textile, along with the safe function of textile being regarded, accuracy and credibility of testing result are requested to be improved. It is focus problem for each laboratory to give the integrated result with uncertainty and make use of it in improving the credibility of results. Testing results that are accurate or not become the basis which judge a laboratory ability. The measurement uncertainty is permeating toward textile testing laboratories. Some testers have already started applying the measurement uncertainty, but some testers have mistake understanding. The uncertainty concept still is shallow, and domestic laboratory still lack professional field guidance document or evaluation pattern, therefore, researching on the measurement uncertainty is exigent in the textile domain.In this topic, The measurement uncertainty is used in batches of staple fiber. The resources of uncertainty are found out. Also, computational formulas are deduced by using statistical methods or non- statistical methods, so each distribution of uncertainty is evaluated by computational formulas. Finally, the general appraisal method is established for batches of staple fiber. It provide method to evaluate uncertainty of physical indexes for staple fiber and build the foundation for the measurement uncertainty of other textile test.In this topic, the measurement uncertainty is applied to viscose staple fiber that is main material in the realm of textile.Many experiments are done to test the main physical index of viscose staple fiber: the length, degree of fineness and the intensity. The general appraisal method is applied to analyze each test methods and test results.The measurement uncertainty is applied to analyze each test method, the test and primary factors that impact test result. The combined standard uncertainty is given through designing experiment,establishing mathematical models, analyzing resources of uncertainty and estimating distribution of uncertainty. Finally, the integrated result with expanded uncertainty are gained. Primary factors that impact test result are found and unimportant factors are removed, so the course of estimating is predigested. On the basic of estimating distribution of uncertainty, the characteristics and suitable applied occasions of each methods are gained.
